Tom's back at work...and here are some highlights!
My house looks like a tornado hit it most days...
I'm caught up on laundry though! and LOVING cloth diapers! It's just not all put away...baby steps here people!
I made dinner every night too! Woohooo!
I also got puked on daily.
and had a doctor's visit for Mia's plumbing issues...nothing was going out or in for awhile there.
and we managed to have a trip to the dry cleaner, grocery store, starbucks (thank you creator of the pumpkin spice latte), and target! I'm getting more adventurous :)
We worked out Mia's plumbing issues. Oh are they worked out. Sometimes she has to stay in the bouncer until the smell fades away...it lingers. She gets a lot of baths.
We're ending our first week in our "normal" routine with a special treat...
ok, it's mostly for mine and tom's enjoyment but memories with the kiddies will be fun :) even if they will be sleeping through most of it ;)

Photo Shoot Fail
Now that we're finally settled in beautiful California, I have my old luxuries back like our super nice Nikon camera and photoshop. I TRIED to take advantage of that to take some pics of the twins.
Epic Fail.
Amelia would only cooperate with the pacifier in her mouth.
She mostly just wanted to eat Jack's arm. This is her attack face. Any object that is near her mouth at this time is in danger. Good thing she doesn't have teeth yet.
There were seconds of ALMOST cuteness.
But mostly, the entire time they looked like this...
I need ear plugs.

Manhattan Beach
My goal since we got out here was to touch the pacific ocean, since that's one thing we never did. Even though I see the pacific ocean every day from our house, it's down a big cliff so touching the water is out of the question unless you drive somewhere.
Yesterday we decided to be touristy and go to Manhattan Beach.
1. I want to own 1 of the houses on the water.
2. I miss the warm Gulf coast water.
I'm such an anticrowd person. I loved how quiet it was, but apparently it's not always like that ;) We'll just have to go there on weekdays and when it's a little chilly so I can enjoy the quiet boardwalk.
We're enjoying our last few days before Tom has to go back to work. Then I'll be on my own all day, every day. You will probably never get a blog post on a weekday after that. I'll be too busy drowning in baby puke to blog. :)

I took Mia down to the water with me. It was too chilly to carry both of them (because then I couldn't bundle them both up well enough) and with Jack's monitor for an accessory, he's hard to just pick up and carry around so he gets left behind sometimes :( Sorry buddy. Luckily, you won't remember any of this haha
We walked along the boardwalk for a few miles and had a really fun day just walking and hanging out...and keeping the kids under about 3 blankets. I was a little chilly so I knew they would be chilly if they weren't well bundled.

Falling In Love
with these 2...over and over again :)
A friend from...oh gosh..elementary school? I don't even remember when we met it was so long ago...came over to the house a few weeks ago and took a few pics of the twins. Her and her husband run Mountainside Photography and did such a great job despite having one very fussy baby. Can you tell from the picture which baby was the sweet one and which was being fussy? I'll give you a hint, the sweet one slept through almost the entire event ;)
It's crazy that this was done just a few weeks ago and already, they both look so different and so much bigger. I'll get some more recent pictures soon so you can see what a chunker Jack is becoming ;) Mia is getting there, we're still working on her eating better.
Happy first day of fall! I'm off to make something pumpkin! :)

Rolling Rolling Rolling
Last night I put Mia and Jack down in the middle of the bed on their backs, Tom was getting them undressed and I was getting the water in their tub ready for bath time. A few seconds later, Tom came and told me to come look at Mia. She was laying in the middle of the bed...on her belly. I thought he helped her but apparently, she rolled right over herself, using her big head for momentum ;)
Actually, she has a very tiny head compared to Jackson. Poor Jack Jack.
We're going to have to keep a close eye on the baby girl now that she's rolling! I wish I could have seen it, but hopefully she'll do it again soon :) Maybe Tom should get the bath tubs ready next time so I don't miss any action...
p.s. we are LOVING California! The weather is amazing, we have an amazing view of the Pacific ocean from our house, the walk around the neighborhood is on a cliff overlooking the ocean and Catalina Island, and there is so much to do and see! We have great neighbors who keep bringing us food and gifts for the twins and a great community around us of military families. Everyone has kids (you have to to live in the housing we're at), there's a playground every 5 feet (which will be amazing when the twins get a little older) and I hope we never have to leave :) The Air Force has really given us such great opportunities and I'm so glad we're here now and get to enjoy it as a family :)

We're Not In Kansas Anymore
Ok, we were never in Kansas, but we're not in Pennsylvania anymore!
and boy are things different around here...
Does the weather ever change?? :) it's a little chilly for the babies, but we'll be getting them some warmer clothes so we can bundle them up and still hang out outside. Oh did I mention we live on a cliff overlooking the Pacific ocean? Great views. We may fall into the ocean though if there's a big earthquake.

3 Months
I can't believe it's been 3 months since this crazy journey has begun. And the twins have been home with me for almost 6 weeks and I haven't given much of an update since then!
So when they left the hospital Jack was a little over 4lbs and Mia was 4 1/2lbs. I'm happy to report that Jack is now just a smidge above 7lbs and little miss Mia is over the 6lb mark! What a difference 5 1/2 weeks and a few pounds can make! They look like newborns now, instead of itty bitty babies. Jack is about 21 inches and wearing 0-3 month clothes. Mia is still staying a bit smaller. She's only about 19 1/2 inches and still in newborn but she's a cute little thing :)
As far as health goes, the doctor says nothing but great things about them. They've both gotten their red blood cell count to a normal range and out of the anemic range.Mia is taking zantac for reflux but other than that doing great! Jack is slowly growing out of the diuretic and sodium. We aren't upping his dose as he puts on pounds so eventually he just won't need it anymore. We've decreased hi sodium from 4x to only 2x a day. So he's heading in the right direction! He needs O2 less and less when he eats and not at all in the car so we're hoping we'll be O2 and monitor free in another month or 2.
Now for some fun things. Certainly, the twins aren't doing what a normal 3 month old might do like rolling over, following objects with their eyes (sometimes), or even seeing really well. Their vision is like a newborn, not like a 3 month old. Their strength is a weird combo of a newborn and 3 month old. They can sit up by themselves with support on their lower back...
Oh hey big girl!
They can weeble wabble on their sides, especially during belly time, but they can't quite get over their arm to roll over.
And when they're laying down or on your chest, they can lift their heads up and move them around to look around.
So they're definitely getting there!
They oo and awww and coo and make all kinds of funny noises...their favorite of course though, still being the scream. They've also become much more alert! Before, they used to sleep ALL the time. Now they are up for good chunks of the day. They are looking around more and starting to become aware of their surroundings, although they obviously still can't quite see more than a few inches away from them.
They are big enough now they don't have to eat every 4 hours to keep their blood sugar up so we've become more flexible with eating schedules. At night, if they're asleep, I let them sleep. They were on such a strict schedule before though, they're usually up and let me know when they're ready to eat ;) During the day they eat mostly every 3-4 hours, depending on the day. So I'm adjusting to being more flexible for what and how much they want to eat. They both nurse fairly well and I try to nurse them before giving them the option of a bottle. They eat anywhere from 3-5oz though, so sometimes, they just can't get enough food from me in a timely fashion and they start freaking out. Every day is an improvement though so I'm just trying to be flexible.
They're excited for their first football season and to watch the games with daddy.
And overall, they're just getting bigger, stronger, more active and more fun every day!
We're heading to California this week so there will be some MAJOR adjustments to be made. I'll keep you posted on how well things go...and how (un)calm I handle it all ;)

Should-Have-Been Birthday
Well today is the date I've been waiting for since January. Even after the twins were born it was a day I look forward to. Today is my official due date. The twins should have been born much closer to this date. After they were born I looked forward to this date as the time when the twins would start moving forward.
For the past 3 months they've been acting how they should if they were still inside of me, sleeping all the time, not having a lot of muscle strength, not eating well. They were forced to do a lot more than they wanted to do, like eating and breathing on their own. Now, they should start to see some real progress. It'll be awhile until they catch up to a full term 3 month old baby who is double their size, rolling over, starting to sit up and look at or respond to things around them. But they should be getting there soon and I'm really excited for that.
I'm going to do a full update on them soon. They haven't been weighed in over 2 weeks but we're going to the Dr on Thursday, right before their 3 month birthday, so I'll get some stats for you then and share some cute things they've been doing lately :)
Happy Should-Have-Been Birthday Jackson and Amelia! I hope life will get a little easier for you now.

1 Month Home
I brought my twins home from the NICU 1 month ago!
They've gotten so much bigger...so I think that means I'm doing a pretty good job ;)
